Green Peas / Hare Matar Sabzi Recipe – Guide to prepare Green peas/Hare matar sabzi easily at home

My hubby and kiddo love this Sabzi when I cook it. Let me share you a secret, I don’t like it that much to eat but love to cook for them🙂.


I find the look of Hare matar very attractive in all of the pulses family members and also find it easy to cook than the other ones.

Green Peas / Hare Matar Sabzi Recipe

Green Peas / Hare Matar Sabzi Recipe

Ingredients

  • Green peas (1 cup)
  • Onion (2 pieces)
  • Tomato (1 piece)
  • Black Mustard Seeds (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Chili Powder (2 teaspoons)
  • Salt (2 teaspoons)
  • Coriander Powder (2 teaspoons)
  • Coriander Leaves (couple of branches)
  • Garam Masala (1 teaspoon)
  • Tadka
  • Asafoetida(Hing) (1/4 teaspoon)
  • Black Mustard Seeds (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Cumin Seeds (1/2 teaspoon)
  • Curry Leaves (6 to 7 pieces)
  • Oil (4 teaspoons)
  • Green Chilies (1 piece)

Instructions

  1. Keep Green peas for 5 to 6 hours in 3 cups of water.
  2. Finely chop Onion and Green Chilies and Tomatoes.
  3. Boil soaked up Green peas with 2-3 cups of water in pressure cooker till 3 to 4 whistles.
  4. Take a pan and heat oil on a medium flame.
  5. Add Asafoetida.
  6. Add Black Mustard , Green Chilies, Cumin Seeds, Curry Leaves.
  7. Put chopped Onions in the pane.
  8. Saute till it becomes transparent.
  9. Add Tomato in the mix.Saute till it becomes softer.
  10. Add Coriander Powder, Chili Powder, Salt, Garam Masala. Stir and mix all the ingredients well.
  11. Add boiled Green peas in the pane.
  12. Saute it gently for 2 minutes.
  13. When the Green peas looks prepared switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.
  14. Sabzi is now ready.

Notes

Be careful while sauteing peas as they become very soft after boiling.

Here is my style guide to cook Hare Matar Sabzi with step by step photos,

  • Keep Green peas for 5 to 6 hours in 3 cups of water.
  • Finely chop Onion and Green Chilies and Tomatoes.

    • Add Asafoetida.
    • Add Black Mustard , Green Chilies, Cumin Seeds, Curry Leaves.
  • Put chopped Onions in the pane.
  • Saute till it becomes transparent.

  • Add Coriander Powder, Chili Powder, Salt, Garam Masala. Stir and mix all the ingredients well.
  • Add boiled Green peas in the pane.

  • When the Green peas looks prepared switch off the flame and garnish with coriander leaves.
  • Green peas Sabzi is now ready to eat and serve 🙂.
  • It can be enjoyed with Roti, Puri or Paratha.
